A little about me...
I'm Andrew
I have always enjoyed being behind the camera. As a kid, I was fascinated by my dad's Polaroid SX-70 and its "clippity clop" exposure followed by the "whizzer whirl" of the electric motor as it dispensed the instant print. My very first camera was a Vivitar LF 110 Pocket camera that both shielded me from the outside world and thrust open a door to expression and creativity. In high school I pursued photography further and learned the basic techniques using my parent's Canon AE-1 35mm camera with black and white film. I also learned how to process that film in the high school's dark room. Today I shoot using a Canon R6 Mark II with various professional RF and EF lenses, and process with Adobe
Lightroom and Photoshop.
My interest in aviation comes from my father, Ken. As a kid from Northeast Ohio, he rode his bicycle to Akron Municipal Airport to watch the new (and his favorite) F-4U Corsairs, made by Goodyear, work the pattern. He recalled the pilots’ white scarves flapping in the wind as they flew overhead with the canopy open for landing. He took our family to air shows near and far and inspired and supported my brother’s and my love of aviation.
We both became private pilots.
My interest in animals, nature and wildlife comes from my mother, Terry. Stories from her youth include living in a house with guinea pigs, a collie, a few parakeets and a skunk! No, it did not have its glands, but could still strike fear into any delivery person that came to the front door. Her grandparents, who had a cabin in Northern-Central Michigan, instilled in her an early compassion and respect for animals. Whether it was discussing a hunter’s less-than-accurate shot upon finding a wounded animal, or deciding where to place hay for animal food during harsh winters, they demonstrated the obligations and pleasure of sharing this world with its amazing creatures.
To date, my work has been published by the Commemorative Air Force (Airbase Arizona & Texas HQ), Warbird Magazine and ESPN's Page 2 - (February 24, 2011) Page 2 Crashes the Snow Shovel Races in Angel Fire & (March 21, 2011) Braving the Great Ostrich Race, to name a few. I'm proud to have won numerous awards at local events, and – while living in Washington State for 3 years – to have operated and sold my work from a successful art
market booth. I'm also an advocate for local businesses. I have worked with several here in the East Valley and look for opportunities to do the same whenever I travel. I also support local businesses whenever I can and while I'm on location.
